About Rick Mummey
Who is he? What does he want? Why doesn't he shut up?
Please allow me to introduce myself: I'm Rick Mummey. Well, there's one hurdle crossed. Call me Mum if you like. I'm very excited to add this site to my other big venture, Mumcast: The Rick Mummey Show, available on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Music and at www.drwill.com.

On the podcast, we examine what makes creative people tick, via interviews and samples of their work. Each episode features original music by a variety of artists from all over, so while some of our content may be local (local being the Midwest, specifically Lafayette IN), some will be national, and some episodes will be interactive, polling our readers about their tastes, interests, and opinions. I hope this site will become the hub for interacting with the podcast. And of course, a generous helping of humor is part of the mix.

As for me personally, I was born and raised in Northwest Indiana, in Hobart. I worked 25 years in radio and 6 in social work. I have musical parents, and my brother and I have benefitted greatly from that environment. My father was a jazz drummer, and my brother Kevin has played drums/percussion professionally, and now has an academic career in Minnesota. His partner Lynn is an educator, and their son Cecil is a 10 year old budding musician, actor, and playwright. My daughter Sara is Executive Director of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra . My stepdaughter Taylor is working on a career in art education. And my spouse Janet is a potter. I am surrounded by creative people, in and outside my family.

For over 25 years, I have been in a band called Dr. Fine & d'Gleet. We play original music, and an eclectic mix of covers from Robyn Hitchcock, John Mayall, Rickie Lee Jones, Steve Earle, John Prine, NRBQ, Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and many more. My relationship with my band mates is very much a familial one, which heightens my experience, and informs the music.

I'm interested in the art of art, the art of living, the art of creating. This site will reflect that. And occasionally, I may put my two cents in on what's going on in the world around me.
